Sheryl Swoopes, a Hall of Famer in the WNBA and broadcaster for the Dallas Sky, responded to a fan’s claim of bias against Caitlin Clark on X by posting screenshots of their text exchanges.Swoopes wrote, “Hey Caitlin, I wanted to personally reach out to you and say I made a mistake on what year this is for you, COVID year has me all confused. I also have nothing but respect for you and your game and appreciate your skill. Congrats on everything you have accomplished thus far. Be blessed.”In the messages, Swoopes apologized for previously misstating Clark’s college career, mistakenly saying she played five seasons and took over 40 shots per game.Clark actually played four seasons and averaged 22.7 shots per game while breaking the NCAA’s all-time scoring record.Following her comments and the backlash, Swoopes was removed from her commentary position for a game against Clark’s team.Despite the criticism, Swoopes defended her interactions and praised fellow players, while Clark continued to set new records in the WNBA, demonstrating her exceptional performance this season.Swoopes recently supported Chicago Sky player Diamond DeShields after a game in which DeShields fouled Clark to the floor. After DeShields shared a screenshot of hateful comments from Clark supporters, Swoopes responded, “Head up kid! Hate will not win!! You are covered and ain’t nothing these evil people can do about that. All love for you!”
